Beauty at Every Turn

You’ll be thrilled by the landscape of snow-white soft sand and turquoise sea, by the incredible underwater world off the coast of Tabarka, the Instagram-perfect white-and-blue houses lining the narrow streets of Sidi Bou Said, the Tunisian pottery at the colorful markets, the hues of the sunset over the Sahara, and the vast collection of Roman and Byzantine mosaics at the Bardo Museum, considered one of the most beautiful in the world!

Impressive Historical Heritage

  • touch the walls of legendary Carthage, the powerful city-state that stood up to the Roman Empire two millennia ago;
  • admire one of the most magnificent and oldest mosques in the Islamic world—the Great Mosque of Kairouan, which is more than 1,400 years old;
  • listen to the muezzin’s call to prayer and the haggling at the market in the ancient medina of Sousse;
  • immerse yourself in the country’s history and culture through a spectacular laser show at Medinat Alzahra Park;
  • explore every detail of the French Art Deco-style buildings in the heart of Tunis, which evoke the city’s colonial past.

A Gourmet’s Paradise

Did you know that Tunisian couscous is listed as part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage? And you absolutely must try it, along with the local briki pastries and exotic cactus fruits, which are even sold in supermarkets. The tender tuna just melts in your mouth, and the dates here are so sweet! You absolutely must try Tunisian wine at an authentic winery or the olive oil, which is even exported to stores and restaurants across Europe.

And the local pastries! Don’t forget that the French ruled here for a long time—they really knew a thing or two about baking—so they passed on their expertise to local artisans. Ice cream lovers in Tunisia will find an entire palace called Casa Del Gelato with a hundred varieties of this frozen treat!

Movie fans’ dreams come true here

George Lucas named the planet Tatooine in the movie “Star Wars” after the local city of Tataouine. Not far from here, you can still see authentic ksars—Berber dwellings that served as the slave quarter in Episode I. You’ll also find the Sidi Bouhlel Canyon, where Luke Skywalker meets Ben Kenobi; the Sidi Driss Hotel—the place where Luke grew up; and the Ong Jemel rock formations, which served as the Mos Espa race track in the movie.

And that’s not all—these famous films were also shot in Tunisia:

  • “Monty Python’s Life of Brian” (1979, directed by Terry Jones);
  • “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981, directed by Steven Spielberg);
  • “The English Patient” (1996, directed by Anthony Minghella).

Tunisia ranks second in the world in terms of the number of thalassotherapy centers (treatment using seawater, mud, sand, and the climate), offering a vast range of services: beauty treatments, rejuvenating massages, modern aesthetic medicine, various relaxation methods, and even thermal springs.
